The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP), Kaduna State Chapter, has called on Governor Nasir el-Rufa’i to conduct elections in the 23 local government councils of the state.
The conference, in a statement issued by its chairman, Umar Farouk Taba, yesterday, said delaying conduct of council elections was “an outright infringement on the fundamental right of the people of Kaduna State to elect their desired representatives both at both the wards and local government level.”
CNPP, which is an umbrella body of 35 political parties in Kaduna State, called for immediate removal of the caretaker committees in all the 23 local government councils and handing over of the administration of the councils to civil servants, pending the conduct of elections.
“The caretaker committee at LG level is illegal, unconstitutional and unacceptable to people of the state,” the statement said.
“We would be left with no option than to call on the Federal Government to withhold the LG allocation for Kaduna State should the state government fail to heed to the clarion call.”
