Closure of 556 private schools alleged to be operating illegally in Abuja by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) would increase out-of-school children in the country, an educationist, Chioma Osuji, has said.
Osuji, who is the Policy Adviser of Civil Society Action Coalition on Education for All (CSACEFA), made the remarks in an exclusive interview with Daily Trust, in Abuja.
She said, “The children that are attending these schools will not be going to school anymore. So, they will be roaming about, which will increase the number of out-of- school children we have presently.”
She said that the government did the right thing by insisting on quality and high standard but that there should be palliative measures to achieve the desired goal.
