The 4th edition of the CLIMM Foundation South-East U-16 Track and Field Championship is set to kick off on October 24, to 26 at the Umuahia Township Stadium.

CLIMM is an acronym derived from the initial letters of the first names of five foremost athletes from the South-East namely Clement Chukwu, Lee Okoroafor, Innocent Iheme, Mike Ukaha and Mba Uduma

The organising committee in a statement said accommodation, transportation, and feeding of athletes have been arranged, with the venue and hotels awaiting the arrival of the athletes and officials.

The championship will attract young male and female athletes from the five South-east States of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States who would compete in 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, and 1500m, long jump, high jump, and triple jump.

To spice up the event, south-south states have been invited to present athletes for the first time since the inception of the championship three years ago.

Organisers also said at the end of the competition, the top three winners in every event would take home medals and cash prizes as well as food hampers.

The five retired athletes of the South- East extraction have said their ultimate target is to revive the dwindling interest in athletics in the region.

They, therefore, thanked corporate organisations and public spirited individuals for their unwavering commitment and support to the grassroots sports development project.

According to the Foundation, exceptional athletes from the last three editions have been granted scholarships with one of the beneficiaries currently studying in the United States while pursuing her athletics career.

Imo State is the defending champion, having topped the medals table with seven gold, nine silver, and two bronze medals in the last edition.
