An Abuja-based Muslim cleric and Magistrate, Sheikh Abdullahi O. Garba, has urged Muslims to embrace the study of science and science-related courses to be able to help the society and mankind as expected of them.

He gave the advice on Sunday in Abuja at the annual Ramadan lecture of the Afemai Islamic Movement (AIM), themed, “Islam: Solution to Problems of Humanity”.

According to him, Muslims seem to be failing the world in their responsibilities, because they were not acting specifically on the dictates of Allah for them to study beyond mere reading, hence the difficulty for them to apply Islamic principles, as obtained in the past, to solving the challenges facing humanity.

“Reading is different from studying, Allah commanded us to read and know. We should learn and re-learn; study and re-study. Allah gives us the solution to the problems of the society and the world. It is left for us to apply the solutions as applicable to the challenges.

“The Jews were endowed with knowledge and know-how and Allah says that. Scientists are the ones at the forefront of evolving solutions to the challenges of the society and even innovating technologies. So, Muslims must embrace sciences to help the society and mankind,” Garba said.

He said most of the so-called discoveries were later found to be listed by Allah in the Qur’an and that the Muslims should have been the ones at the forefront of helping humanity since they already have the master plan in the Qur’an that covers everything.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman Board of Trustee (BoT) of the movement, Alhaji Momodu A. Kadiri, said AIM is to promote Islam among Edo state people in Abuja and also to help the cause of Muslims across the country.

He urged Muslims to be good to their neighbours especially in this blessed month of Ramadan and also urged the federal government to do more to tackle insecurity and other criminalities in the country.
