…Cleric calls for tolerance among Nigerians

A cleric has called on adherents of various religions to show tolerance and accommodate one another as God did not create all of mankind to adhere to a single religion.

Sheikh Ahmad Tijjani, a son of Bauchi-based prominent Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, stated this in Zikpak chiefdom, Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State while marking the first Maulud ceremony of the chiefdom.

While urging Muslims and Christians to respect one another’s belief for peace to reign, Sheikh Tijjani said: “Whenever you see a clash or crisis between Muslims and Christians, someone has wronged someone somewhere since there is nowhere in both religions that teaches its adherents to fight someone that belongs to other faith.”

In his remark, the Deputy Chief Imam of Jama’a Central Mosque in Kafanchan, Sheikh Muhammad Kabir Kassim, quoted verses from the Qur’an and Bible that teach love, tolerance and sympathy and enjoined all to return to the teachings of their holy books which, he said, proffer solutions to human crises.
