An Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure has sentenced a cleric, Adewale Adelu, and five others to death by hanging for armed robbery.
The convicts, aside from Adelu, are Ikechuckwu Maduagwu, Fayemi Olubusuyi, Ropo Adeleye, Dele Otopka and Bayo Omotosho.
The court found the culprits guilty of attacking and robbing two commercial banks in Akure and Idanre 13 years ago.
The robberies took place at the defunct Diamond Bank (now Access Bank) located in Akure and First Bank in Idanre, the headquarters of Idanre LGA.

Justice Yemi Fasanmi delivered the death sentences.
The culprits were arraigned on July 14, 2022, on three counts of conspiracy, armed robbery and illegal possession of firearms.
During the trial, the prosecution counsel, Kayode Salami, presented evidence that the convicts, armed with AK-47 guns and dynamite, carried out the robberies that shook the two towns.
Justice Fasanmi, who said the defendants confessed to their crimes, sentenced them to death by hanging on each of the counts.
