Claim of Obaseki being my Godfather a distraction – Ighodalo

The Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant in the Edo governorship election, Asue Ighodalo, has denied allegation that Governor Obaseki is his main backer.

In an interview with Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Monday, Ighodalo called the claim a distraction, stating that it was an attempt to divert his attention away from his campaign for governor of Edo.

Recall that there have been reports that Ighodalo, a seasoned lawyer and business leader, is being backed by incumbent Governor Obaseki to succeed him.

But Ighodalo said, “It is not a weakness if it is true. I would have welcomed it if it was true because it should make life easier for me. With the level I have heard him say a number of times that he is creating a level playing field and has no candidate, I believe him.

“He has four or five friends there. So I wonder why, when people say things, they assume I’m his special friend. I don’t believe I am his closest or favourite friend among the individuals in the space.”

The PDP candidate also discussed his plans for the South-South state if elected governor.

According to him, his government will be a model state, bringing development to the grassroots.

Ighodalo expressed concern about states’ overdependence on federal appropriations, claiming that this is not the case.
