Civil society opposes privatization of hospital

The Edo State Civil Society Organisation ( EDOSCO ) has issued a three-day ultimatum to the state government to reverse the privatization of the state specialist hospital.

The government, however, says the hospital is wholly managed by the Edo State Hospital Management Board and supervised by the State Ministry of Health.

Speaking on behalf of the group, the coordinator, Omobude Agho, alleged that the government had divided the hospital into two entities with one for the elite and the other for the underprivileged.

He alleged that the government had sold the hospital to one Dr. Moye from Lagos who entered into an MOU with the Ministry of Health, saying Edo people had rejected the sale.

“We have given them a three-day ultimatum which begins from Saturday to Monday to vacate the premises. If they refuse, by Tuesday morning, we will occupy the place,” he said.

The media aid to Governor Obaseki, Crusoe Osagie, said in a statement that the hospital remains an asset of the state.
