Civil rights coalition tackles CJN over comment on G-5 Governors

Coalition of Civil Society Group for Transparency and Good Governance (CCSGTGG) has called Chief Justice of Nigeria,( CJN) Olukayode Ariwola to resign with immediate effect over his comments on G-5 Governors.

The Civil Society Group said they find the comment attributed to the CJN as unacceptable after presenting himself as an active player in a team thereby completely destroying the reality of a fair, impartial and non partisan justice administration system.

The CJN was recently quoted to have said he was happy that Governor Makinde Of Oyo State was part of the G-5 governors. The statement generated condemnation.

The Coalition in a statement issued in signed by the Secretary General Ambassador Muhammad N. Bn-Ahmad said judges and magistrates should typically steer clear of making such declarations and travelling to locations where they can be perceived as taken sides.

“CCSGTGG, stand to emphatically considered the statement made by the Chief Justice of Nigeria during his recent visit to Port Harcourt and Came to the conclusion that it is unlikely that the current Chief Justice Olukayode Ariwola will be able to carry out the sacred duties of his office and impartially ensure justice for every Nigerian, particularly when it comes to defending citizens voting rights and votes,”

“Therefore, CCSGTGG finds it unacceptable for the CJN to continue in that position after presenting himself as an active player in a particular team thereby completely destroying the teality and appearance of a fair, impartial and non-partisan justice administration system,” he said

He said by this tacit endorsement of a section of the political community, the CJN has inadvertently drowned the nation’s judiciary deep into the murky waters of the kind of the cut throat politics the likes of Governor Nyesom Woke are known for.

He warned that it’s not possible to have a successful democracy without a fair and impartial judiciary, and it’s not possible to have a fair and impartial judiciary that lacks independence in partisan political activities.
