CITAD, Hello World move to address digital divide in Abuja communities

The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) and Hello World have rained seven communities in Abuja on digital connectivity.

The pilot session of the training commenced with three communities in Dakwa in AMAC Area Council of Abuja and held at Stonehedge Hotel on Monday.

At the end of the session a digital hub would build in each of the participating communities.

Speaking, Professor Amina Kaidal, CITAD board chair, said the participating communities did not have internet connectivity, which she said is slowing down their progress.

Kaidal said, “In most areas you don’t find internet connectivity. What CITAD is doing is to open up those communities to have easy access to the internet.

“We are training people from seven communities. We have built a connectivity hub in Dakwa in Abuja. The most important thing is to see that the communities are connected to the internet so that they can experience what other people are experiencing. From here we will know where to go.”

However, Kaidal appealed to other organization to come forward for collaboration with CITAD in order to empower other communities, especially in the rural areas.

Also speaking, Komugisha Fino Esther, Director of Implementation of Programmes, Hello World, said at the end of the training a digital hub would be installed in each of the communities.

She said, “We are in partnership with CITAD to build communities here in Abuja. We are training communities so that they can build their digital hub and bridge the digital divide so that we can support them.

“We selected two participants from seven communities undergoing the training so far. The communities would understand what Hello hub is and can they build their digital hub.

“We hope to achieve a collective community of people that would come together to learn so that we can empower them and in return they empower their communities.”

Esther added that the programme would hopefully be  expanded to other communities upon the successful completion of the training.
