Church pays fines for 2 inmates, seeks peaceful 2019 polls

A Pastor Babatunde also enjoined politicians to shun hate speech in order to engender peace and stability.s the 2019 general elections draw nearer, the General Overseer of Peculiar Gospel Outreach Ministry (P.G.O.M), Pastor Joseph Oyeyemi Babatunde, has called on politicians to desist from vote-buying with a view to providing a level playing ground for the electorate to elect their preferred candidates.

The cleric spoke during a visit to prisoners and a hospital in Omu-Aran, Kwara State, in commemoration of the ministry’s 10th year convention and crusade.

The church delegation also visited a leprosy centre in the town to donate several gift items in its commitment to showing love to the less privileged.

The cleric called on politicians and well-meaning Nigerians to prioritize the welfare of the less privileged in the country, saying the best way to preach the gospel was to show compassion to the needy.

“The idea behind all what we have done today, the visit to the Leprosy Centre, to the prison here in Omu Aran and to all the hospitals, is just to show the love of Christ, because if you look at the life of Jesus, he was compassionate,” he said.

At a prison, Babatunde announced payment of fines for two inmates on behalf of the church. The inmates were released after the payment was made.

On the 2019 election, he said, “My charge to the electorate is that we need to all go out and participate to make our decision on who rule us. Leadership is very important; if we care less about it and allow wrong people in wrong places, it means in another four years, the nation will be in bondage. So it is better that we come out to vote.”
