Christmas: Sustain tempo to completely rid terrorism, COAS tells troops

The Chief of Army Staff, Farouk Yahaya, has said that sustaining the tempo of operation by officers and men of the Nigerian Army would completely rid Borno and the North East of terrorism.

The army chief, who made the call on Sunday during a feast to celebrate Christmas with troops, journalists and other security agencies at the Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, said the insurgents had been decimated in the region.

Yahaya, who celebrated the event alongside the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Isiaka Oladayo Amao commended the troops and urged them to redouble their efforts in order to completely rid the North East of the remnants of terrorists.

“I must commend our troops for their wonderful performance; we have now reached a turning point, so what we just need is a little push to completely defeat terrorism in Nigeria,” he said.

He also said that part of the visit was to meet soldiers that were wounded in action at various operations while fighting insurgency in the North East.

Highlights of the event were the honour and awards to troops that distinguished themselves in various fields of operation and media houses that have been in the frontline throughout the insurgency.

Meanwhile, the air component of Operation Hadarin Daji has conducted a total of 1,398 missions in 1,534 raids in its efforts to decimate bandits and other criminal elements operating in the North West.

The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Amao, disclosed this in his remarks on the occasion of the ‘Chief of Air Staff Christmas Luncheon’ with personnel of air component Operation Hadarin Daji and 213 Forward Operating Base, Katsina on Sunday.

 The security chief, represented by the Air Officer Commanding, Special Operations Command, Bauchi, Air Vice Marshal A. Abdulkadir, said the missions, which were carried out with a total flight time of 1,950 hours 10 minutes from January 2022 till date had been effective in degrading the capabilities of the terrorists and denying them the freedom of action in the North-West of the country.

Earlier in his welcome address, Group Captain MB Umar, Commander Air Component Operation Hadarin Daji and 213 Forward Operating Base Katsina, said the occasion was in line with one of the Chief of Air Staff key drivers to “bolster morale by improving personnel welfare.”
