A cholera outbreak has claimed two persons in Bauchi state.

Chairman, Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (BSPHCDA), Pharmacist Adamu Ibrahim Gamawa disclosed this Monday at a press briefing held at the Emergency Operation Center (EOC). 

He said that 20 cases were reported out of which two died at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) while the remaining  18 patients are receiving to treatment in the hospital .

According to him, the 20  cases were reported from four different locations within Bauchi metropolis.‎

According to him, the affected  areas are ; Danmar A and B, Tsangaya school ,  Hardo win  Kobi ward , Makama B at Nasarawa Jahun and  Makama A in Gwallaga .

The Chairman said  that his agency has enough drugs like ORS solutions, Chlorine for disinfection and others.‎

He said that all measures are being taken to help the public against the disease adding that the agency had already started disinfecting  the affected areas and other places in the state.

Pharmacist Gamawa therefore called on people in all parts of the state to ensure personal hygiene and  keep their environment clean.

He also advise them to always cover their food items properly to keep away flies and contaminants which he said will help against the spread of the disease to other parts of  the state.

"Allowing your environment to be dirty, not washing of hands and eating any how is the cause of the outbreak of cholera. If we keep a good hygiene, we should able to do alot of hand washing during this period by doing all this, this disease will die away the way it started,"he said.

He said that a sensitisation campaign has also started in the media and other channels to sensitise people on the disease and ways to avoid it.‎
