At least 146 people have died in Kebbi State, following a cholera outbreak that ravaged the state in the last few weeks.
Disclosing this to Journalists on phone in Birnin Kebbi Wednesday, the Chief Medical Director of Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, Birnin Kebbi, Dr. Aminu Haliru Bunza, 2,208 had been affected by the disease so far.
Bunza, who did not give the period within which the death occurred, said the epidemic had spread to 20 out of the 21 local government areas of the state.
He said: “The 2,208 people affected, are the people that had been tested and unfortunately, 146 people died so far of the outbreak. Out of the 21 local government areas of the state, 20 have been affected by the disease. The state government is now doing its utmost best to contain the spread of the disease as we are taking steps to stem the spread of the disease.”
When contacted, the Commissioner for Health, Mohammed Jafar asked our correspondent to get in touch with his Permanent Secretary, Hassan Maigandi, who declined to comment.
