Cholera: Bauchi death toll hits 72 – Red Cross

Adamu said officials of the Red Cross were involved in carrying out chlorination of sources of the disease with government and other stakeholders in the state.

The secretary believed that the high number of cases – 1,725 – recorded in the state would have reduced if adequate social mobilization was carried out by the state government.

He said the rate of people infected with the disease were increasing but the number of people dying because of the disease have reduced because of the intervention from all quarters in order to combat the menace.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has donated drugs and consumables to victims of cholera outbreak in Bauchi State.

The donation was presented by the permanent secretary, Federal Ministry of

Health, Dr. Linus Awute when he visited cholera patients at the hospital.

The Permanent Secretary who was accompanied by some officials of the ministry of health at both the federal and state levels, urged the media to promote the view that cholera was preventable.

The permanent secretary disclosed that 353 people had been killed while over 7,000 others have been infected by the disease nationwide.
