Chinese filmmaker, Chloe Zhao, made history as the second woman to win best director at the Academy Awards held on Sunday.
The director of “Nomadland” did not only make history as the second woman to win the awards but she’s also the first Asian/woman of colour to ever win the award, making it a double honour for her.

- ‘Fulfilling campaign promises will resolve Nigeria’s problems’
Congratulatory messages have been pouring in for Zhao as many say she has set the bar high for Asian women.
She nailed it. The whole thing. Like I said, a class act. Congratulations Chloe Zhao, a most deserving winner. Let’s go!

I love it when people break barriers. I love it even more when they do it with heart and grace and integrity. So profoundly moved.

Congratulations to Chloé Zhao. In this time of division and rising anti-Asian hate, it is of no small importance that an Asian woman director has held a mirror up to America, and done so with such grace, craft, and unvarnished honesty that she won the Oscar for it. Bravo.

Chloé Zhao just took home the Academy Award for Best Director, for ‘Nomadland,’ making her the first woman filmmaker of color to win that award in the #Oscars’ 93-year history. She’s only the 2nd woman to win Best Director, after Kathryn Bigelow in 2010 for ‘The Hurt Locker.’ pic.twitter.com/h5agYQ7VAV
