Sokoto State Students Parliament has called on the state government to ensure roads to schools and all learning environments are safe.
This was part of their resolutions made public during the signing of the Sokoto State Child Protection Act into law by Governor Aminu Tambuwal at a ceremony held at the government house on Monday.
The event was witnessed by the United Nations’ Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Edward Kallon; Wazirin Sokoto, Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, and a host of others.
The children also requested more toilet facilities, teaching aides, furniture among others in schools across the state.
With the passage of the law, Kallon said Sokoto was taking the leading role in children and women protection in the country.
He commended the governor for his commitment to child rights and the protection of women in the state.
Daily Trust learnt that between January and September this year, 321 cases of violence against women and children were recorded in the state.
