Rescuers are currently attempting to rescue a child still trapped under the rubble of a collapsed house on Iga Odungaran Street, Lagos Island. The building collapsed around noon on Thursday.

Nine out of the ten individuals initially trapped have been rescued, leaving only a child, approximately three years old, still unaccounted for.

The rescued individuals include seven males and two females. The first eight people rescued received pre-hospital care from paramedics of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

First responders at the scene included officials from LASEMA, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), policemen from Ebutero Police Station, state fire service officials, and local residents.

Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident.

“A total of ten people were affected by the collapse, with nine rescued so far, including seven adult males and two females. The initial eight people have received pre-hospital care from agency paramedics and are now at Iga Idunganran Primary Health Care Centre receiving further treatment. The ninth victim is also receiving treatment while efforts are ongoing to retrieve the tenth, a child,” he said.
