English football club, Chelsea FC have emerged winner of the FIFA Club World Cup after defeating Brazilian side, Palmeiras 2-1 after 120 minutes of action.

This is the third major trophy of the Thomas Tuchel reign after winning the UEFA Champions League and Super Cup. This victory also means the Blues have now won every trophy possible under owner Roman Abramovich.

Belgian striker, Romelu Lukaku had opened the scoring in the 55th minute but the lead was cut short after Thiago Silva was judged to have fouled in the box.

Cavalcante Veiga stepped up and scored from the spot in the 64th minute to make it 1-1 at the 42,056 capacity Mohammad Bin Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi.

Chelsea hero Kai Havertz who scored the winning goal from the penalty spot said he was nervous while stepping up to take the penalty.

“It’s amazing. After champions of Europe, we are now champions of the world. It sounds better.

“I was nervous [taking the penalty], I have to be honest. It’s a big penalty. It’s just crazy. It was good I kept the nerves. I am very happy.

“I was the third penalty taker but I was the only one left on the pitch. My team-mates gave me trust. I dreamed always as a kid of this. This is an amazing feeling for me,” he said.

Meanwhile, Al Ahly thrashed Al Hilal 4-0 to lift the bronze medal.

Yasser Ibrahim claimed a brace, with Ahmed Radwan and Amr El Solia scoring the other goals as the African champions finished third in the global club competition.

The Saudi Arabian side had to make do with fewer men on the pitch after Matheus Pereira and Mohammed Kano were red-carded in the 14th and 28th minutes, respectively. Al Ahly saw three of their stars – Mohamed Hany, Taher Mohamed, and Mohamed Sherrif -yellow carded.
