Chef in court for stealing utensils

A 35-year-old chef, Jerry Bamai, on Tuesday appeared in Wuse Zone Six Magistrate Court in Abuja for allegedly stealing kitchen wares belonging to his employer.

The police charged Bamai, who works at Bufana Restaurant, Usuma Str., Maitama – Abuja, with theft. He pleaded not guilty.

The prosecution counsel, ASP Peter Ejike, told the court that the complainant, Atuluko El-Sadat of Kigoma Str., Wuse, reported the matter at the Maitama Police Station, Abuja, on Feb. 13.

Ejike said the defendant allegedly stole glass wares, cups, tea jugs, mugs and a briefcase containing original documents from the complainant’s house.

The prosecutor said Bamai admitted to have committed the crime during an investigation.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the Penal Code Law.

Magistrate Aminu Eri admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Eri ordered that the sureties must reside within the jurisdiction of the court with a fixed and verifiable address.

He adjourned the case until March 15, for hearing. (NAN)
