‘Check excesses of private schools with educational reforms’

Some parents in Sokoto state have called on the state government to hasten the implementation of its education reforms in order to bring relief to parents.

The call followed what they called exorbitant charges by private schools without a commensurable service.

"They are charging between N40,000 to N50,000 as school fee  per a pupil not minding the prevailing economic situation in the country," one of the residents, Engineer Aminu Nuhu interviewed told Daily Trust.

He further suggested that "There is the need for government to interven and regulate their activities.

Be alleged that "Ironically, these schools rely on public schools for some of their laboratory equipments and their teachers are not bettered than those in public schools.

"They also finish their examination weeks before the public schools and resume same time, meaning they are short-changing parents.

"The only difference between the two is strict monitory as private schools owners ensure effective monitory of their staff which is not the case in the public schools.

"I know many parents who withrew their children from private school because of school fees but could not enroll them in public schools becuse of their condition despite the current state of emergency imposed on education in the state," a resident of the state, Engineer Nuhu added.

He however, appealed to the state government to hasten the implementation of its educational reforms in order to provide relief to parents.

Malam Bashir Rabe Mani opined that parents were finding it difficult to cater for the needs of the family not alone paying school fees of their wards because of the current hardship.

"Some parents are finding it difficult to provide their family with a three square meal and now theyvare faced with school fees. I don’t know how they will cope with the two.

"I read a post on facebook by one man which reads ‘welcome to a school fees week,’-This could cause phobia among the parents ," he said
