Goals from Serge Gnabry and Robert Lewandowski were enough for Bayern Munich to earn a comfortable lead against Chelsea in a Champions League last 16 (first leg) encounter at the Stamford Bridge.
Bayern were in total control of the encounter from the start as Thomas Müller had an effort on goal in the first minute but Willy Caballero stood on the German forward’s way.
Caballero made more smart saves to keep the scoreline at 0-0 going into the intervals.
However, the visitors came out smoking in the second half and Gnabry gave them their deserved lead when the winger tucked into an empty net from Lewandowski’s pass in the 51 minute.
Just three minutes after, the German forward doubled the lead for his side and helped himself to a brace when he stabbed home inside the far post from another superb pass from Lewandowski.
The Polish would go on the complete the massacre when, in the 76th minute, he tapped-in at the back post after a great work by Alphonso Davies.
Chelsea coach, Frank Lampard made some substitutions to put his team back on track but rather than reduce the tally, they were being overran in all departments.
Marcos Alonso blew away any hope for a goal when he got himself a red card after a bad challenge in the 83rd minute.
Chelsea would be hoping for a miracle when they travel to Germany for the second leg encounter but in the meantime, they will be up against Bournemouth away from home in the Premier League next.
