The Republic of Chad has sought partnership with the Nigerian government to connect its power source to the Nigerian national grid.
The Chadian Ambassador to Nigeria, Abakar Saleh Chahaimi, stated this when he visited the Minister of Power, Engr. Abubakar Aliyu, in Abuja.
He also said there have been previous engagements and interactions on power interconnection between the Chadian government and Nigeria which did not reach the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding stage.
Abakar, however, urged the minister to reopen the proposed partnership on interconnection, stating that both countries stand to benefit from the partnership.
He cited the recent power interconnection between Chad and Cameroon which was financed by the World Bank, noting that Nigeria can replicate the same with Chad to promote African integration for development.
On his part, the Minister of Power, Engr. Aliyu, assured that there would be continuous interaction on power interconnection with Chad as Nigeria is committed to regional integration.
The minister also said directors in the Ministry of Power with institutional memory of the engagements will kick-start the interaction.
