Centre warns against vitiating China-Nigeria relations

The Centre for China Studies has urged Nigerians not to allow the coronavirus pandemic to alter the bilateral relations between Nigeria and China.

The director of the centre, Charles Onunaiju stated this at the weekend in Abuja during a press conference themed “Nigeria-China Cooperation: Towards a Community of Shared Future”.

According to him, Nigeria-China bilateral cooperation is too “vital to be distracted by the exigencies and nuances of transitional rules in epidemic control” adding that the two nations share strong symbolic identities.

Onunaiju said the Nigeria-China bilateral relation was currently at its best with more room to improve, stressing that the cooperation between both countries had deepened considerably and constituted a strategic pivot to the dynamic prospects of China-Africa relation.

He said the centre, serving as a think tank committed to the scholarly interrogation of China and cooperation with Nigeria and Africa in general, had viewed with concerns some recent issues relating to the outbreak of the COVID-19 and the ramifications of several measures adopted by different countries to control and contain the virus.
