Centre to establish Islamic varsity in Abuja

The Muslim Community Centre (MCC), Abuja, has said that it plans to establish Islamic University in the Federal Capital Territory.

The centre’s chairman, Senator Usman Kibio, said the proposed university was to enable Nigerian students get in-depth knowledge in Islamic education and other related courses as well as reduce cases of Nigerians going abroad to study Islamic education.

Kibio stated this in Abuja at an award presentation to students who participated in Qur’an recitation competition organised by lecturers from Al Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt.

The Head of the Egyptian teachers, Sayyed Al-Hasanain Al-Mu’allim, said the competition was organised to create reading culture among students.

He advised students to imbibe the culture of memorising the Qur’an, which, he said, would benefit them in this world and the hereafter.
