The Synapse Services Resource Centre has advised the federal government to encourage private investment in healthcare facilities that will cater for the need of people suffering from mental disorder in the country.
The Medical Director/ CEO of the centre , Doctor Vincent Udenze made the call at the commissioning of the Synapse Services Resource Centre in Lagos.
A conservative estimate of mental disorder cases in Nigeria shows that one out of seven persons will have serious mental illnesses, while one in four persons will have some form of mental disorder.
Udenze said stigmatisation against people suffering from mental illness and inadequate private facilities hinder peoples’ access to treatment.
