The National Mathematical Centre (NMC) Abuja has crowned Marcel Onyebuchi as the 2021 Nigeria Maths Queen.
Onyebuchi, who was the overall best student in the 2021 Mathematics competition organised by the National Mathematical Centre for Junior Secondary School in the country, was crowned during the 2021/2022 Mathematics Day and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for the girl-child.

She urged students to be committed and dedicated to their studies while she commended the contributions of her families and teachers to the feat she achieved.
At the event, the Director/Chief Executive of the centre, Prof Promise Mebine called for more investment in Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM) for the country to have meaningful development.
He also described mathematics as the bedrock of science technology and engineering adding it is either Nigeria embraces mathematics or forget economic, scientific and technological growth.
A guest lecturer and former head of the Mathematics Department, University of Abuja, Dr Mary Durojaiye urged mathematics teachers to relate the subject to real-life experiences to enhance easier understanding among learners.
Another guest lecturer Dr Uche Anaduaka said students should not study mathematics only in an attempt to have the prerequisite subject to gain admission into universities but out of the love for the knowledge, mathematics equipped students.
