Census: We are working on security measures – FCT commissioner

The Commissioner of the National Population Commission (NPC) representing the FCT, Joseph Shazin Kwali, has disclosed that adequate security measures will be put in place in areas perceived to be insecure, especially in rural communities, to ensure a smooth census exercise next year.

Kwali, at a press briefing on Tuesday, said the commission was aware of such places, hence that it would not compromise the security of those posted to such areas for the exercise.

He also disclosed that the commission would, through its online recruitment process, request applicants for facilitators, training centre administrators, monitoring and evaluation officers, data quality managers, supervisors, as well as enumerators, who he said would be needed to prosecute the exercise.

He said that to ensure a fair, efficient and transparent recruitment selection process, the commission would constitute a local government area recruitment team that would comprise three persons.

He further said that: “And to us in the commission, the qualities of staff that will perform the census activities are very important.

“Therefore, having good knowledge of the content of the census document, the technique and the organisation of the census process is key to the success of the 2023 population census.”
