Marriages are meant to last a lifetime but many don’t due to several factors. Unsuccessful marriages are prominent in the entertainment industry globally and Nigeria is not an exception. There are a few Nigerian entertainers who have had a taste of this with many moving on with life and preferring to focus on their career and other things.

Sadiya Gyale

The Kannywood screen diva Sadiya Muhammad, popularly known in the movie industry as Sadiya Gyale bade the film industry farewell in 2015. However, her marriage has put an end to a long series of rumours about her casual friendship with actor Baballe Hayatu. Sadiya Gyale has been one of the finest screen divas Kannywood has ever produced. Between 2011 to 2015, the actress became absent in the filmmaking sector only for her to resurface in 2015 when she declared her intention to get married to her lover. Unfortunately, the actress’ marriage lasted barely a month. The actress had eluded the filmmaking scene since the incident.

Fati Muhammed

Actress Fati Muhammed has been a household name in Kannywood. She joined the film industry over two decades ago as a mother of one. She was married to actor Sani Mai Iska but the union crashed. She returned to Nigeria ending her self-imposed exile in England and later got married to Ali Jita’s elder brother again the marriage crashed after a few years.

Asma’u Sani

Asma’u Sani joined Kannywood after a failed marriage and she became a household name in the industry for her ability to interpret all roles assigned to her as an actress. While making waves in the industry the actress got married again and left the industry to be a full-time housewife. It was reliably gathered that the second marriage also failed and she returned to the filmmaking industry. Actress Asma’u Sani is believed to be among the few that got married and got accepted back into the industry after their crashed marriages.

Mercy Aigbe

Actress Mercy Aigbe’s marriage went into shambles in 2017. The duo got married in 2013. The news broke when the actress took to her social media to speak out after enduring a series of domestic violence. The estranged husband, Lanre, also accused Mercy of infidelity.  This union was said to be Mercy’s second marriage, which produced a son. Mercy is now in her third marriage with popular movie producer Kazeem Adeoti (Adekaz) and still waxing strong in the entertainment industry.

Tonto Dikeh and Churchill

Tonto Dikeh and Churchill got married in 2015 and the union was blessed with a son. They separated in 2017 after several arguments over allegations of domestic violence and extramarital affairs. The actress recently took to Instagram to show the public that she took back the car she gave Churchill for his birthday and promised to take everything she ever gave him. Her ex-husband is now married to actress Rosy Meurer. Tonto is still a force to reckon with in the entertainment industry.

Damilola Adegbite and Chris Attoh

These Nollywood stars got engaged in 2014 and got married in 2015. The union was blessed with a son. The marriage, which lasted two years fell apart from what was described as a fairy-tale from the start. The couple, however, hid their divorce for a while before making it known to the public. Both have since moved on with life and doing well in their respective fields.

Funke Akindele and Kehinde Almaroof

The actress got married to movie producer Almaroof in 2016. The marriage ended shortly after, the reason being that the producer impregnated another woman. The actress recently referred to it in an episode of the popular tv series ‘Jenifa’s Diary’ where she said the movie producer broke the news of their separation on social media while she was on a movie set. The actress is now married to rapper and producer JJC Skillz and the union is blessed with twins. Funke has become a name in the Nigerian entertainment industry and waxing stronger by the day.

TeeBillz and Tiwa Savage

After a luxury wedding that took place in Dubai in 2013, Tiwa Savage and Teebilz called it quits on their marriage in the year 2018. Their marriage crisis became public in 2016 after Teebilz was seen trying to commit suicide by attempting to jump off the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.

Teebillz accused his estranged wife of adultery, among other things, on social media, and the two engaged in a ‘war of words’ there. Tiwa, who has a son with him, agreed to a 45-minute video interview to refute the allegations.

Stella Damasus and Daniel Ademinokan

Stella Damasus and her spouse Daniel Ademinokan divorced in 2020. He was her third husband.

Damasus and Ademinokan have been dating since 2011. Until 2014, they kept their relationship and marriage a secret. They married and went on to become gospel music preachers, evangelising through music.

Damasus has been married three times and Ademinokan is not her first spouse. In the year 1999, she married Jaiye Aboderin. Sadly, he died in 2004. Damasus remarried, this time to Emeka Nzeribe, in 2007. This was one of the shortest celebrity weddings of all time, lasting only 7 months.
