Celebrating Spain in art and culture

Spain’s new ambassador to Nigeria, Alvaro Castillo Aguilar, said the mission had decided to maintain the tradition of the cultural week in the belief that it was a unique opportunity to showcase Spain’s cultural diversity and also a chance for mutual closeness between the cultures of Spain and Nigeria.

Speaking on the art exhibition Minister of Tourism, Culture and National Orientation, Chief Edem Duke, said the initiative serves a dual purpose to create a veritable avenue for young Nigerian artists to showcase their talents and ingenuity, while at the same time, promote a common link between both countries.

Although many watch the Flamenco every year, each performance is always as electrifying as the previous. It was the same this year as Mrs. Eme Kurz attested to. “It was an awesome encounter with Spanish dance. The energy, the movement and precision of the steps and dance to match the rhythm of the instruments and hand claps were breathtaking.”

Winner of the competition, Eghosa, said it was the third time he was participating in the annual event and with several attempts at different works, he is happy his persistence paid off. The artist looks forward to February 2012, when he can enjoy an all expense paid trip to Madrid, Spain, for the Art Coalition festival.
