The Centre for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD) has demanded the inclusion of persons with hearing impairments in Nigeria in all strata of life.
The Executive Director of CCD, David Anyaele, in a statement in commemoration of the International Day of Sign Language, harped on the need to make necessary provisions for persons with hearing impairments to enable them live a good life.

Anyaele said the theme of this year’s International Day of Sign Language, “Sign Language Unite Us” was apt for the deaf community in Nigeria as the primary beneficiary of sign language.
He lamented that the deaf in Nigeria attracts exclusion, isolation and stigmatization as well as poverty.
According to him, “the world International Day of Sign Language is an opportunity for us as citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to reflect on the extent to which we accommodate citizens of our country that do not speak or hear the way we do, in particular persons with hearing impairments that use sign language as a means of communication.”
