Tunde Rahman, a Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu, has urged the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr Yemi Cardoso, to be more political in his decisions of strengthening the economy.
The presidential aide said Cardoso must be political without being partisan, and being attentive to the political ramifications of his decisions.
Rahman made this known in an opinionated article shared on the Presidency’s X account amid public outrage over hardship from Tinubu’s economic policies.
“The CBN governor must always pay attention to the political ramifications of his decisions. He must be political without being partisan,” Rahman said.

He argued that the CBN governor has the pedigree and reputation to lead the country’s economy, but added that he should do more with his strict personality.
“His pedigree is rich as his character is unsullied. Cardoso had a remarkable private sector career where he shone brilliantly in banking, stockbroking and consulting.
“However, it does appear Cardoso will need much more than that to succeed in his present assignment.
“Under him, the CBN seems to be doing the right thing or doing things right: thinking and working on coming up with appropriate monetary policies, moving to rein in the rising foreign exchange rates and particularly achieve an appropriate value for the naira, which Cardoso believes has been undervalued.”
Cardoso has been widely criticised over the depreciation of the naira, which has caused the hight cost of living in the country.
Recently, the apex bank’s chief said the economic policies launched by President Tinubu would work, but Nigerians should exercise patience.
Meanwhile, Edo senator and former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomole said that Nigerians are suffering from the economic policies of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
