The Christian Blind Mission (CBM) in Nigeria has announced its plan to uplift at least 56,348 people living with disabilities in Benue State.

CBM, an international development organisation, has been in existence since 1908, working to improve the quality of lives of persons with disabilities, the vulnerable and the marginalised.

The organisation made the pledge during the launching of its Disability Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction project in Makurdi.

CBM’s International Humanitarian Programme Specialist, David Sabo, said the project would run in six wards each in Oju, Obi and Konshisha LGAs.

He said the intervention would be in areas of mental health, eye health, sexual and reproductive health, Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD), community-based rehabilitation for persons with disabilities and orthopaedic surgeries, among others.

He said  CBM, in collaboration with Elim Christian Vocational Training Centre, Igede, had secured 250,000 Euros to carry out the project.

Earlier, the leader of the people living with disabilities in the state, Peter Iorkighir, thanked CBM for the many interventions carried out in the state.

“My people appreciate so much what CBM is doing as they continue to put smiles on the faces of persons with disabilities in the state,” Iorkighir said.
