CBM, Germany launch €4.8m humanitarian fund for Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto

The Christian Blind Mission (CBM), in collaboration with Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and German Humanitarian Assistance (Deutsche Humanitäre Hilfe), has launched a €4,888,888 humanitarian fund to support vulnerable communities in Katsina, Kebbi, and Sokoto states.

The four-year project, launched on Wednesday in Abuja, began on November 1, 2024, and will run until December 31, 2028.

The initiative, implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), aims to build resilience and address urgent humanitarian needs in the region.

“While the northeast has received substantial humanitarian aid, the northwest has been overlooked for too long. Partnerships are critical for sustainable improvements in disability management and resilience building,” Brockhaus said.

He highlighted the €4.8 million TDA grant as the largest CBM co-financing project in Nigeria to date.

Omoi Samuel, Country Director of CBM International-Nigeria, described the project as a milestone in efforts to support conflict-affected host communities in the region.

“With over 2.9 million internally displaced persons, 13 million facing acute hunger, and 2.4 million in critical humanitarian need, this initiative reflects our shared ambition for a future where no one is left behind,” he said.

Nike Akinbola, Head of Development, Partnership, and Programme Unit at the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, praised CBM’s dedication to disability inclusion.
