Lisa Lobree was on her way to a core fitness class in Philadelphia last week when the incident happened.
It’s believed that the catch, which tipped the scales at more than the weight of two bags of sugar, was dropped by a bird of prey who had been soaring overhead at the time, reports Philly.com.
The aftermath was caught on camera by her friend Cameron Abrams, who shared the picture of a surprised Ms Lobree with the caption: “A five pound catfish fell fifty feet out of a sycamore, dropped by a clumsy bald eagle, and hit Lisa Lobree in the face!”
His post was shared online and has been picked up by news networks worldwide .
Of the incident, Ms Lobree said: “Suddenly I was slammed by something. I was like, ‘What?’ I was freaking out.”
After screaming and falling to the ground, Ms Lobree was able to get up and walk away with just a small cut and a swollen face.
She added: “It’s probably one of the strangest things that have happened to me in my life.”
She says that a shower lasting an hour was necessary as the smell of the fish stuck to her afterwards.
There were no further reported sightings of the eagle who it’s believed lost his lunch.
