Senate figures “catastrophic health fund” into 2019 budget

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Health, Senator Lanre Tejuoso disclosed that the National Assembly had appropriated funds for the establishment of Catastrophic Health Fund in the 2019 budget, which was recently passed by the legislature.

Tejuoso said the Catastrophic Health Fund aims at financing the top three types cancers in Nigeria—breast, prostate and cervix.

The Senator who  represents Ogun Central Senatorial District, disclosed this at the free medical fair held in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Tejuoso who was represented by his Media Aide, Toba Ogunremi, said the 8th legislature of the NASS had passed “impactful laws for the very first time in the history of Nigeria.”

According to him, it took an unusual and uncommon courage to convince the leadership and colleagues to fully appropriate the funds for the first time in Nigeria.

Tejuoso added that the National Assembly “is in the final process of passing the legislative framework that will make Health Insurance Mandatory in Nigeria”

He noted that the Federal Capital Territory, Health insurance and SPHCDA are also included.
