The production of Cashew Nut Shell Liquid (CNSL) would save Nigeria N120 billion annually, the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) has said.
The Director General, Prof Hussaini Ibrahim, disclosed this when he received the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Ogun State, Prof Felix Kolawale Salako, at the council’s headquarters in Abuja.

He further stated that the council, under her Agro Boosting Programme, is committed to the development of the product which is a source of raw materials for cashew nut shell liquid.
Ibrahim also revealed that the council had provided CNSL equipment to FUNAAB, Ibrahim Badamosi Babaginda University, Lapai in Niger State, Kogi State University, Anyigba in Kogi State and the Abia State University, Uturu in Abia State.
He also expressed the council’s willingness to partner the varsity in the processing and development of cashew-nut shell liquid (CNSL) for industrial use would create jobs and add value to the economy.
Salako in his remarks noted that the nation produces lots of cashew which shell is thrown away as a waste product after consumption, saying FUNAAB is working on how to convert this waste to good use.
