A non-governmental organisation, New Incentive-All Babies Are Equal has disbursed the sum of N780 million to 264,320 caregivers whose babies were enrolled for routine immunisation in Sokoto and Kebbi states.

According to the breakdown of the disbursement, 135,790 enrollments received N415 million in Sokoto State while the sum of N365 million was disbursed for 128,530 enrollments in Kebbi State since the inception of the programme.

Flagging off a “Livelihood Grant” in Sokoto over the weekend, the Operation Coordinator, Ibrahim Rabi’u, explained that, each of the caregivers was given a transport fare of N1000 for each attendance and a livelihood grant of N5000 will henceforth be given after completion of routine immunisation for each infant.

“This Livelihood Grant will be given to caregivers upon verifying the completion of the full routine immunization schedule,” he said.

That, he said, had increased enrolment and retention rates in the two states.

He further stated that the programme was being implemented in 18 out of the 23 local government areas in Sokoto State and 17 local governments in Kebbi State.

In addition, the sum of N71 million was spent on paying stipends to some of the health workers in the targeted areas.

The deputy governors of Sokoto and Kebbi states, Engineer Idris Gobir and Umar Abubakar Tafida, who flagged off the livelihood grant, separately commended the New Incentive-All Babies Are Equal for the intervention, saying it had encouraged parents to enroll their babies in routine immunisations.

They also assured the organisation of their state governments’ continued support.
