Candidates use text message abbreviations in exams – WAEC

The Nigeria Examinations Committee (NEC) of the West African
Examinations Council (WAEC) says candidates use of text message abbreviations in answering questions in its English Language examinations.
The examination body disclosed this in a communiqué issued at the end of its NEC two-day meeting in Lagos yesterday.
Noting various weaknesses that pervade its examinations, WAEC observed that general weaknesses of candidates in the various subjects as outlined in the reports include poor command of language, indiscriminate lifting of portions of set passages as answers and use of text message abbreviations as well as wrong spelling.
