CAN disowns Ondo pastors for ‘abducting’ worshippers, demands prosecution

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has demanded the prosecution of Pastor David Anifowose of the Whole Bible Believer Church at the Valentino area of Ondo town in Ondo State and his assistant, Josiah Peter.

Daily Trust recalls that 77 people comprising 54 adults and 23 children were allegedly hypnotised and kept in the underground part of the church by the duo after telling them rapture was going to take place in April but later said it had been changed to September.

The CAN President, Dr Samson Ayokunle, in a statement by his spokesman, Pastor Adebayo Oladeji, yesterday said the pastors and the church were not members of CAN.

The statement said in part, “No true pastor would claim to know the date of the rapture because the Bible has stated clearly that it is only God who knows the date.

“Whoever claims to know the date is not only misleading the public but cannot claim to be a genuine servant of God. He is at best, an agent of satan pretending to be a pastor.”

Ayokunle urged churches to monitor pastors under them and advised members “To crosscheck every teaching from the Bible before believing it.”
