Sokoto attack: Nigerians being killed like chickens – CAN

The Christians Association of Nigeria (CAN) has said the gruesome murder of innocent travellers by terrorists in Sokoto State and many other attacks on citizens have shown that human life is cheaper than that of chickens in today’s Nigeria.

CAN in the 19 Northern states disclosed this in a statement signed by its Vice Chairman, Reverend John Joseph Hayab, on Thursday‎.

While condemning the attacks, he said CAN is concerned that these terrorists have taken their crime against Nigerians too far.

“We call on the federal government and governors in the Northern states, especially in the Northwest region, to take strong measures to stop this evil permanently.

“How can people be productive when they are living in perpetual fear of terrorists in their homes and everywhere they go?.

“Security of lives and property is a serious government business but what we are seeing today is how some of our leaders are playing politics with a serious matter that has almost destroyed the peace, joy and hope of the citizens,” he said.

CAN, therefore, appealed to security agencies to stop the unhealthy competition amongst them and work together in unity for the common good of all Nigerians.

Reverend Hayab further stated that security agencies have all it takes to defeat these terrorists.

He said CAN, on its part, will continue to offer prayers, support and play any role that will help to bring this evil to an end.

Elites of Sabon Birni Local Government Area under the auspices of Gobir Development Association had written to President Muhammadu Buhari over the constant killings of their people by terrorists.

The letter came 24 hours after bandits had ambushed a vehicle conveying some seasonal migrants at Gidan Bawa Village in the local government of the state, set it on fire and watched the passengers burn to death.
