Gambia’s fairytale continued at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations as the lowly raked team shocked their more illustrious opponents, Guinea 1-0 at the Kouekong Stadium on Monday evening to reach the quarter-finals.
Their hero was Musa Barrow whose strike in the 71st-minute was enough to take the Gambians through to the next stage.
It was a tight contest that saw the both sides ending the Round of 16 Contest with 10 men after Yusupa Njie and Ibrahim Conte both saw red for different offences.
After a barren first half, Barrow who plays club football for Italian serie A side Bologna broke the deadlock when he calmly converted Yusupha bobb’s through pass in the 71st minute.
The more experienced Guineans bombarded their opponents goal area in search of equalizer which never came till the final whistle.
Meanwhile, in the second Round of 16 match, hosts Cameroon survived the scare from 10-man Comoros to win 2-1 for a place in the quarter-finals.
The Indomitable Lions will now face giant killers Gambia in one of the quarter-final matches this weekend.
