Despite the planned memorial procession on the alleged October 20, 2020, Lekki massacre, the Lekki tollgate along the popular Lekki-Epe expressway was calm yesterday when our correspondent visited.
The Lekki tollgate is the epicenter of the 2020 #EndSARS protest against police brutality which rocked parts of Nigeria.

Ahead of the memorial today, our correspondent who visited the two tollgates in Lekki-Epe expressway by Ozumba Mbadiwe and Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge observed no presence of security operatives at any of the tollgates.
Only very few officials of the Lekki Concession Company (LCC), the firm managing the tollgates, which have been shut down since 2020 were seen during their usual maintenance work.
Vehicular activities were normal at the toll gates and there was no sign of any planned gathering as of 4 p.m yesterday when our correspondent visited.
Addressing a world press conference Wednesday in Lagos, Ayokunle Oni and Barrister Shina Ogunlana said that the EndSARS memorial commenced last week with visits to some prisons where EndSARS detainees were being kept; Juma’at prayers in mosques, memorial traditional rites at the Afrika Village, and a Memorial Service at Realm of Glory International Church, Lagos.
