Calling on Bauchi State Government

I write to draw the attention of the Bauchi State Government to the high cost of transportation following increase in fuel cost as well as the general inflation for students of Bauchi State University. It is now extremely difficult for students to travel to Yuli Campus of the university, on the outskirts of Bauchi metropolis every day.

It now costs each student about N1000  to N1200  daily to travel to the campus and back making it extremely difficult for them to cope. After all, these students are mostly from poor and medium income homes.

Let me use this medium to appeal to the state government direct the state-owned Yankari Transport company to deploy some of its old buses that can no longer travel long distances to start plying Yuli campus to the Bauchi city centre at moderate costs. This will go a long way to reduce the high cost students are forced to bear.

Attending university these days is also becoming unbearable to most students because of the high cost of rent being demanded on accommodation by landlords and feeding around the campus.

Unlike the main campus, that has hostels for some students, here students are left on their own to handle their accommodation and transport.

Your Excellency, the youth have always been your constituency and you are fervent in youth empowerment.  So kindly help us so that we can start building our future with minimum stress.

Umar Adamu Toro, Department of Public Administration, Bauchi State University, Yuli Campus
