Calabar Para-soccer team wants game included in NSF

Players of the Cross River State Para-soccer team have appealed to the Minister of sports, Sunday Dare to include the game in the forthcoming National Sports Festival in Edo State.

They made the plea yesterday at the end of their inter-club competitive match between Team A and Team B.

The physically challenged athletes staged the match to mark this year’s World Disability Day in Cross River State.

Captain of the club, Sas Gambo who spoke exclusively to Daily Trust said “We seriously appeal to the sports minister not to exclude Para-Soccer from the National Sports Festival.

“We are sad to hear that we shall not be in Edo State.  We were there during the Festival in Lagos and Abuja but excluded from the Rivers edition, and now our place has been given to another sport in the Edo State edition.

“It is not fair. We need encouragement and exposure. We urge the minister to rethink the decision to exclude us.”

Gambo also appealed for sponsors whether from the state, groups or individuals to come to their aid.

“Presently we sponsor ourselves to maintain this club even though once in a while we do have one or two persons coming to buy us slippers, balls and water to drink during our training sessions.”
