Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has redeemed the one hundred thousand dollars (N41,085,000 million) pledge to players of Rivers United following their victory over Young Africans of Tanzania in the CAF TotalEnergies Champions League first preliminary round.

According to the Media Officer of the club, Mayuku Charles, the Sole Administrator of Rivers United, Barrister Chris Green made the presentation yesterday during the team’s training session at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Rivers state.

The Pride of Rivers completed a double over Young Africans last month to book their place in the first round of the CAF Champions League.

It will be recalled that Moses Omoduemuke scored the winner in Dar es Salam before Uche Onwuasonaya scored an 89th-minute winner in the second leg at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt to seal Rivers United’s progress.

Wike has now promised another $100,000 if the team will beat Al Hilal and book a place in the money-spinning group stages of the CAF Champions League.

Rivers United will host Al Hilal FC of Sudan on Sunday October 17 at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Rivers State.

Meanwhile, Al Hilal Omdurman has arrived in the country ahead of the clash against Rivers United after concluding the close camping in Egypt.
