Nigeria’s Paul Bassey has been appointed alongside other four experts into a committee that will inspect the six candidates fighting for the hosting rights of 2019 and 2021 African Cup of Nations.
The appointment was one of the decisions reached by Confederation of Africa Football (CAF)’s Executive Committee after its meeting in Cairo, Egypt at the weekend.
At the meeting, CAF Executive Committee approved a five-member committee of experts to inspect the six countries bidding to host the 2019 and/or 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
In addition to Bassey who is a CAF expert, are; Mali’s Amadou Diakite (CAF Executive Committee member), Chad’s Adoum Djibrine (CAF Executive Committee member), Walter Gagg from Switzerland (FIFA expert) and Amr Fahmy CAF’s Tournament Director of Africa Cup of Nations.
Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea, Algeria, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia are all bidding to host the Africa’s biggest football fiesta in 2019 and/or 2021.
The group of experts is expected to be in Cote d’Ivoire and Guinea in April, Algeria and Cameroon in May, then finally DR Congo and Zambia in July 2014.
The voting to select the host countries for the 2019 & 2021 Africa Cup of Nations will be conducted during the meeting of the CAF Executive Committee in September 2014.
