CAC staff shut down headquarters

Protesting staff yesterday shut down the headquarters of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), crippling business registration and other activities.

The industrial action led to the closure of the premises of the commission in Abuja, thus preventing staff as well as visitors from conducting business transactions.

Before the industrial action, the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service, Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE), CAC chapter, had issued an ultimatum to the management to implement some contending issues or face strike action.

A statement by the union chairman, Ibrahim M. I. Kirfi and Secretary, Sadiq Shehu said following failure by the CAC management to honour series of agreements, “The union is left with no option than to take a very decisive action, as a result of management actions and inactions on the plight of the staff and the commission.”

The Union expressed concern that the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment had been unable to resolve the lingering crisis at the CAC.
