An unidentified cable vandal has been electrocuted in Edo state while repeatedly attempting to vandalise a transformer belonging to the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) along Airport road, Benin City.
It was gathered that the suspect had succeeded in cutting off some of the cables before his sudden electrocution.
A resident, who only gave his name as Mr. Emmanuel, blamed the action of the deceased on get-rich-quick syndrome of the youth.

He lamented that the action of the deceased had plunged the area into total darkness.
The BEDC Acting Head, Corporate Communications, Mrs Evelyn Gbiwen, lamented that despite regular warning against vandalisation of its facities and energy theft, people still indulge in the acts.
She decried the incessant energy theft and vandalisation of the company’s facilities within its franchise states of Edo, Delta, Ondo and Ekiti.
She appealed to residents where its facilities are located to help safeguard them from vandals so that the company can serve them better.
“People must learn to desist from vandalising our facilities because the act is so dangerous,” she added.
