Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State has congratulated winners of the February 26 bye-elections in the state and commended residents for their peaceful conduct of the exercise.

The by-elections for the Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency was won by Mr Musa Agah of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while the Pankshin South state constituency by-election was worn by Chief Ezra Dakup of the All Progressive Congress Party, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

The governor congratulated the winners in a statement by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr Makut Macham on Sunday in Jos.

Lalong also appreciated the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting the exercise in a transparent manner, ensuring a level playing ground for candidates in all parties to participate in the elections.

He also thanked the security agencies in the state for maintaining neutrality and supporting INEC in its discharge of duties saying, the success reinforces the dividends of the peace initiatives his administration since inception had been striving to build.

“You should work hard to serve the people honestly and diligently irrespective of their affiliations of tribe, religion, political party and other consideration.

“Having been elected, the biggest focus should be on how to improve the lives of the people and work for a greater Plateau. With the elections over, it is now time for governance which requires unity, dedication and sacrifice,” he said.

Lalong assured them of his support and cooperation in the discharge of their responsibilities while urging them to begin their duties as soon as they are sworn in
